Philippine Military Academy Class
of 1978 History

Cow Year 1976-77
- Plebe Detail
- On 1 April 1976, we realized what a Herculean task was placed upon
the secondclassmen, as we were tapped
to
train the new cadets-the Class of 1980. During the reception, all of us
remembered our treasured days as plebes. We taught the new cadets the "ins
and outs", "do's and don'ts" and what life was there for
them in the academy. It was also during this time we further our knowledge
in field maneuvers, strategics, tactics, bivoacs and above all, military
leadership techniques and principles.
- As the days passed by, we once again found ourselves away from the
portals of the academy. Our much awaited orientation tour to the different
branches of service of the AFP gave us the answers to where to go after
our cadet days. We visited the different installations of the Armed Forces
of the Philippines. Our visit gave us a glimpse of what life was in the
the Philippine Constabulary, Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force and
the Philippne Navy.
- Southern Cruise
- "Let's go Navy", we all shouted as we boarded a Philippine
Navy ship bound for our goodwill tour to southern Philippines. Aboard ship,
we were taught how to survive in case any contigency, that is, to swim
to the nearest shore!
- For nearly a month, we had an unforgetable experience of luxurious
and heavenly joys, as well as rotting days. We were all amazed to see the
beauty of the world's famous Mayon Volcano in Legaspi City. We were kept
wondering on the theory of the hot springs, in Tiwi, Albay. The Nonoc Mines
did not escape our thirst for adventure. This, we were able to see in Surigao
City. We were made "Adopted Sons of Surigao Ciry". The lovely
beaches of Tacloban, Leyte gave much rest for us. The crystal caves of
Tagbilaran, Bohol were all explored by us. We also had a taste of Cagayan
de Oro Ciry. Cebu City which was our last stop-over did not give us so
much thrills for it was just like Manila.
- Yes, the beautiful ladies of the south
- Many of us in fact left our hearts somewhere there in the south.
The beautiful and charming ladies of the south tried their best to make
our stay with them a very memorable one - a really memorable one! But it
was not all tours, socials and courtesy calls. We also tried to match the
wares of different school teams in the field of basketball, softball and
soccer. Our very own, the Silent Drill Company of Class 1978, had its own
share of entertaining the people. These activities were all geared towards
the attainment of our primary mission-that of bringing the Philippine Military
Academy closer to the people. That really was a very sweet summer which
we all cherished and remembered the "Summer of 1976".
- Electrical Engineering, Mechanics, Thermodynamics
- After that experience, we were soon back to our dar old academy.
Thus we soon found out the plebe knowledge on "How is the cow?"
all about. It goes like this: How is the Cow? Sir, the cow, he is acted
upon the unbalanced forces of mechanics, stranded in the superheated region
of thermodynamics, electrocuted in electrical engineering, brainwashed
and cross-eyed in history, sore-footed in tactics, running short of letters.
In short and simple language, the cow is rotting, Sir!
- Testimonial Parade
- So like an old record being played all over again, we went back
to classroom instructions, reveille formations, study period, intramurals,
taps and not to be forgotten is the 45 minute mess we enjoyed at Yap hall.
But as we all were busy with the piles of books, we realized that the Cadet
Corps was again preparing for its participation in the Testimonial Parade
for the President. This event served as a time-out for us from that
hectic academic schedule which we all were trying hard pass.
- After taking advantage of the series of privileges, seeing our parents
and love ones, and finally the Testimonial Parade, we were all back again
to the routine of the academy's life.
- Christmas, 100th Nite Show
- As the cold winds of December slowly engulfed our environment, the
spirit of the yuletide season was being felt with Christmas songs played
in our mess hall. Then came the much awaited 100th Nite Show. Many of our
mistah actively took part in the show. Remember those dancers in an attire
of ladies?
- AFP Loyalty Parade
- Days really run that fast. We again found ourselves among the buzzling
crown of Manila as we took part in the celebration of the AFP Loyalty Parade.
After the pass-in-review, each of us found ourselves busy preparing our
things for that long deserved Christmas break. Few days after we came from
our Christmas vacation, came the realization of the dreams of our firstclassmen
- to be an officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines!
